baby dress patternI bought a new pattern at Jo-Anns yesterday, and some really cute fabric to make it! (Also enough, I hope, to embellish a little pair of denim shortalls I picked up the other day).

need to catch up

I have a whole string of posts that just need to get done and up… concert report, pics of the baby, pic of GC’s lost tooth, EK med update, breaking appliances, and opportunities… hopefully once dinner is over and I get to sit down (assuming I don’t fall asleep where I land!) I’ll try to make a dent in the collection!

new family picture

My dad caught us at his door the other afternoon, when we stopped to borrow some camping equipment for DA’s firs scout over-nighter, and got a pic of us all! No one looks stellar, but no one is crying or making blatantly awful faces! This is just us!

crazy people

My sister-in-law is running a marathon. Tomorrow.

I mark that right up there on the ‘crazy’ scale! (Still love her, but… get the straightjacket ready! Hee!)

OH… by the way, the point of posting this was that we are really proud of her, and are excited to have her dedicate mile 14 to our family! Go, Auntie!!

oh dear: update

My (not-quite-yet) Sister-in-Law called this afternoon (after reading about my concert dilema) and said she is free to watch the kids tomorrow night — at my house!! So, I don’t have to find babysitting, and I don’t have to spread the kids around, and I don’t have to try and get them all home and resettled into their own beds at midnight tomorrow night! Yeah! My Mom also said she would come hang out with the kids, and help settle EK!

*big sigh*

So glad that worked out well!

The concert we have tickets to (Velvet Revolver) that I had on the calendar for the 30th

is tomorrow!!

Velvet Revolver, ContrabandI am scrambling now to find babysitting for 6 kids on a school/work night. I was *sure* it was next Saturday…

(so glad I checked the tickets this morning for what time it started… I would have really hated to find out in a week and a half that we missed the concert!)

What kind of American English do you speak? I was a little surprised — but they don’t have any of the ‘local flavor’ of where I grew up — creek=”crick”, for instance! Ah, well! It was fun!

I just got home from EK’s EEG…

Aside from the fact that she was supposed to arrive at the appointment sleep-deprived and hungry and that she slept the entire one-hour drive up, but she *was* hungry, she settled relatively well — well, once the technician quit poking at her head and putting on the little hat with the electro-leads and generally disturbing her!

Once she fell asleep (the optimal EEG measures brainwaves as the subject is falling asleep) the tech pointed out to me the sleep spindles that graphic of sleep spindle appeared in her readings: closely concentrated brainwaves that appear as the brain is falling asleep. She showed me what each line on the scan was showing, and how EK was demonstrating sleep spindles on both sides of the brain, which is considered healthy.

In the end, we wound up with more than 50 minutes of readings for Dr. K to look over and analyze, and the tech said that we should be receiving a written report sometime in the near future telling us the general findings of the EEG. Hopefully, they don’t find anything except that all is well and normal, and we just go on from here!

Filed under a little rain, maybe it should be a lot of rain.

My washer sprung a leak today. Its not one of the exterior hoses (filling or draining), and I’m afraid that its just another expense and another problem that has to be dealt with. I just can’t live without the washer… as much as the laundry is my undying nemesis.

Just another little puddle, huh?

ek update

Tomorrow morning, I will be taking EK up to have an EEG run to check her brain wave patterns. This is a followup to her April 1st neurology appointment (that, due to my being sick, was never documented).

Welcoming a new baby to the extended family: Fuul’s brother and his wife welcomed baby #3 (a boy!) to their family tonight! We haven’t heard yet what name they have chosen, but we did get to see one picture of baby and mommy! Both looked wonderful!

That makes 13 grandkids for Fuul’s mom… not bad for 11 years!

Lost another week, what with sickness and taxes and quilts and and and…

My follow-up appointment for the dizziness was not the 18th but the 11th — I missed it, of course. The nurse called that afternoon to let me know, and was very helpful in rescheduling, recognizing that I was really disoriented when I put the appointment on my calendar a full week late! I went in yesterday, instead, and, though I am still getting dizzy and light-headed spells in the afternoons, she thinks I am basically over it, and will just take a little time to recover fully. I guess I can function with that. She also OK’ed me to start taking my Allegra again — Just in time for allergy season to start! (Better to have something to fend off the itchies, unlike last year when I couldn’t take anything since I was pregnant!)

Spent several hours Monday night doing taxes — yuck! We put it off as long as we could, convinced that it would all be bad news (three jobs plus unemployed months plus some contracting in one year would be a tax nightmare, yes?), but were pleasantly surprised in the end! We now eagerly await refunds, promised tentatively by the 22nd!

Quilts: I finished the quilt I’ve been working on for my sister-in-law — she wrote this morning that they hope to have the new baby sometime early next week! Just in time! My friend, K., mentioned the other day that she had promised to make a quilt for auction for the 4th grade Outdoor School fundraiser (JS and her son, R., are in the same class at school), but she has been so overscheduled that she hadn’t even started work on it yet. She was going to use fabrics that she already had on hand, and just throw something together! I realized that I could help out (and contribute to the fundrasier!) by piecing the quilt for her! And, when she brought over fabrics, I realized that we could easily get two between us, what with all the fabrics I have, as well. So, I finished the top for the first one yesterday (Pink Flowers), and hope to work on the second one today (Green Stars). I’ll try to get some pictures taken of all the quilts, so its not just titles that are listed on my screen.

In addition to all this, I’ve been playing laundry catch-up, building a new blog for a friend, nursing an allergy/cold headache, and not sleeping enough. Gotta fix all that, I guess!

still dizzy

Its been 6 days now, and the dizziness has not subsided. I’ve almost gotten used to the incessantly swaying floors, the occasional walking into walls, and the rare (but hard to ignore) falling over and landing on my behind (granted, usually from a very low point, like kneeling next to the carseat, but….)

The antinausea medicine has been a saving grace, though its still disconcerting to feel like I have motion sickness without any of the standard consequences of motion sickness.

I guess next week, I’ll get to go back to the doctor and see if we can’t find something to stop the spinning. (I have an appointment 4/18; I really hope I’m not still sick by then!)
