walking news

Nate has posted some wonderful news about his little one’s new shoes and her new reverse walker! Pictures and everything!

EK walking behind the strollerEK has started using the stroller as her own little walker thing! I swing the adjustable handle down where she can reach it, and we head out on our walks — slow though they may be! — letting her walk for as long as she has the energy. We can tell when she is running short, because her left foot turns further and further out, dragging occasionally as her energy wanes. But, I think she goes just a little bit farther each day, and she has started to spend more time on her feet here at home. Just a matter of time, I think.

Its so wonderful getting to see these little kids on the verge of taking off!

Nate has also added a few new links on his page to further resources regarding 1p36 Deletion Syndrome, and I have decided to add them to my sidebar, under Chromosome Anomalies, so I will have a good copy here, as well!

comfort food

Temperatures finally cooled down enough last night that we could enjoy some warmer foods… so DA and I opted for homemade Potato Soup… yum! (Everyone else opted for boxed mac & cheese — weirdos! LOL)

Someday I will figure out why it is that comfort foods are only available in ‘warm’ versions; do we not also need comfort during the summer months? Am I missing something — some elusive summer comfort food? What are your favourite comfort foods?

And, In case you were interested… I’ll put my recipe for Potato Soup behind the fold… (more…)

done

Anna’s blog is up-to-snuff. No more antiquated forms. Ability to use all the newest and most exciting plugins, and Themes enabled. Woohoo! (And it only took one glitch and a couple of tweaks to get it all going!)

(I sure hope she likes it… I didn’t get hold of her before I made the changes, so it will be a bit of a surprise, I think! LOL)

what is it

What is it about church that makes all children be absolutely unbearable and tired and whiney and hungry and demanding and and and… right as it ends and you have to try and get them home and fed and settled down for the afternoon?

I’m just sayin’.

done: wp2.0.4

I upgraded all my files to the new, Wordpress 2.0.4 version. Took a little more than I would have liked, but its finished. I thought of upgrading Anna’s site, but Fuul reminded me of all the nightmare, since we had so many custom files on the older versions, and asked if I felt up to doing all that ‘fixing’. I’m afraid that the answer tonight is a resounding “NO!

But, I did back up all the files on all our Blog sites, so that’s a good thing!

On to the next piece of life, I suppose!

Update, 10:11pm:

Found a problem. Working on fixing it. Never can go smoothly, can it?

she returns

AE, on her return homeAE arrived home safe and sound this afternoon, just in time for take out chinese for dinner, and more fun with her siblings! She had a great flight (played ’stuffed animals’ with a couple other unaccompanied minors on the plane!), and was too excited to even go with her dad to pick up the chinese before finally heading home!

She is still slowly going through the list of things she did while she was gone, and I’m sure she’ll be regaling us for a couple of weeks with lots of specifics! (Needless to say, she saw and fell in love with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers while she was gone! They saw the play one night, and then watched the movie and then the making of the movie the next night! Ah, the cultural enlightenment!*)

*I can’t complain: that’s one of my all-time farourites, as well!

another upgrade?

Wordpress has just released Wordpress 2.0.4, with a bunch of new security upgrades. I guess that means I need to do another upgrade — just when I got things running (kind of?) smooth here.

They want WP users to spread the word, so this is my little part.

I guess I should look seriously at upgrading Anna’s blog before she gets back to school again this fall… overall, it will be better anyway!

there should be a study

There should be a study — federal funding and the whole shebang! — into this fantastic phenomenon:CC, the drool machine how can CC, who admittedly nurses a lot, produce so much, well, wet!? He is an absolute drool factory! I know for a fact that he’s not getting that much, or I think I’d be drying up and blowing away in a light breeze… and I’m not. (Honest!)

I don’t remember my other kids being so wet — I mean, I know that we bought a lot of cute little bibs for each of them, but I don’t recall those bibs ever being an absolute necessity! With CC, on the other hand — well, he’s just wet! If I change his shirt, then pick him up ten minutes later, his shirt will be soaked. If he is playing with a toy in his exersaucer, the entire tray will be slick with wet. Last night at dinner, he was sitting on my lap, and managed to soak the back of my leg, and run drool all the way down into the bottom of my flip-flop!

If some research facility would just find the source of this wet — this ablity to make the output of a liquid exponentially larger than than the input! — who knows how many third world nations suffering from drought could be offered relief!

Or maybe they could just find some new fabric to make bibs out of that would soak up all that wet and save me from sharing in the ooey, damp fun! Heh!

big plans

GC ready for a playdateGC has been waiting since last week to get to do something with her friend, K, and today was finally the day!

She’s had the outfit picked out, lying on top of her dresser, since Monday! She had bags and bags of activities all packed up and ready to go (I pointed out that K. has all those same toys/activities at her house, so GC could leave all that home)! And she stood at the front window waiting for K. and her mom to get here starting right at 11 — the time that they were supposed to be here! (Heaven forbid, they didn’t arrive until 11:13!)

But, she is so excited to be going, and we are sans one more little girl for the next four hours!

gulp!

Last night — under duress!* — we did the unimaginable: we left the kids with DA for a couple of hours and went to see Pirates!

I’m still not quite past the panic of the whole thing!

So, the movie was great (more on that later, if I’m so inclined!), and all the kids survived — EK was even sound asleep when we got home! I think for future reference we may work on diaper changing as a good skill! (We weren’t gone that long, so told DA not to bother; EK is not exactly the easiest kid to change, since she doesn’t have to bend her knees when you change her diaper — low muscle tone, you know! Not necessarily the best combination!)

We called the kids before we walked into the theatre (we got there half way through the previews, so didn’t have to wait in any lines) and called them again as we walked out of the theatre.

But, as much as I enjoyed the movie, I have to admit that I was a little more tense than I might otherwise have been, what with this being a big first for our kids.

Why won’t they stop growing up??

*Fuul didn’t give me a choice, we didn’t leave CC,  and I dragged my feet and made every excuse I could come up with, many of which I was still making as we drove toward the theatre! Ack!

solar fireworks

The Solar Fireworks quilt top is done… 'Solar Fireworks' quilt top, sans borderswell, not the borders, or the binding, but the center top is done! (It took a little longer than I had hoped, because I had to actually inset a couple of the corners — what I get for doing an irregular pattern, huh?)

I got the kids to hold it up for me outside (on the hot pavement! ouch!), and didn’t realize til after we were inside and cooling down that the corners don’t show up too well. Ah well. Maybe I’ll try for a better shot later, inside and out of the direct sunlight!

But, in the meanwhile, here is the top I’ve been working on this week!

dance party

AE called last night (AE & Anna, dancing Anna read on Tulips that we hadn’t heard anything in a couple of days, so they paused the movie they were watching and called right away! — Power of a blog, eh?), to let us know she is having a great time, doing lots of fun stuff, and (to quote her, kind of whispering like it was a funny secret!), “Mom, they’re spoiling me!” I don’t think she was complaining, though!

Anna also said they choreographed an entire dance to a song, and have since performed it a thousand times! Hehe!

They have been swimming, to a parade, out to eat, out to the movies, rented movies, done fireworks, and and and! I think they are filling every available day! Oh! And, Auntie E taught AE to play Chopsticks on the piano… she’s absolutely thrilled!

Tomorrow, they may go to the Museum of Natural History with Grandpa R — ought to be a fun trip!

Can’t wait for her to get home again, so she can tell us all about her great time!

a milestone!

Last night, my post about AE’s trip was post #500 here on Tulips! Wow.

Maybe I talk too much?

ae: growing up!

AE lost her tooth on her vacation — I mentioned it here before — and here is the pictureAE lost her tooth on her vacation to prove it! I haven’t heard more from her since that news, but I’m certain she is having a wonderful time! (Although there were some misunderstandings, I think, about where she was going to stay — I thought we were doing one thing, and thought we had made all those arrangements, but somewhere along the way, half the people involved thought we were doing one thing, the other half another; I’m sorry for any stress this caused anyone! ack!)

I have her Purple Irish Chain quilt hanging up on the design wall above the sewing machine, just wating for her to come home and finish it up! I can’t wait to have her show off her hard work!

waahhh

Found out today that our cell phone plan (which we were going to expand this month) went past the monthly statement date with no changes, so the bill is horrendously awful (Fuul worked far too many hours this last month, hours and hours on the phone fine-tuning the end of the project. More than 2000 minutes over our regular plan allowance. Ouch!) He got it all taken care of for next month — when it really won’t matter so much, because the project is done, so he’s not spending so much time phone-bound. Typical, huh?

If having the phones wasn’t such a necessity (7 kids, I’d be house-bound waiting on calls without my cell!), I’d happily give them up in a second! But, with the kids, and Fuul not working in an office, so not having a ‘work’ phone… well, for now its out of the question.

*sigh*
