winding down
(This post is for my Grandma, who worries…)
I’m still here. We’re winding down summer, such as it is, which only means that things move faster and faster and deadlines come and go, and its like summer has already gone.
DA started football yesterday, and is already really excited to be playing, and that he’s not so much smaller than most of the other players than he thought he would be. Of course, now I’m missing my babysitter for three hours every afternoon right when I could use him most, getting the other kids ready for school to start!
JS finished 25 miles of the 50 mile bike trip for scouts last weekend (DA finished all 50, plus they estimate another 4 they tacked on to the end). He was really excited to do it, in spite of three crashes on the way. He’s been sporting his ‘war wounds’ all week! He’s looking forward to starting Junior High next week. (Bought new bikes for the two boys for the trip; it seemed to have helped out a lot, with DA’s brakes being bad before, and JS’s bike being on the small side).
AE has been doing sleepover after sleepover with her two friends, M & V. Unfortunately, there’s not much sleeping going on when the three of them are together. Not sure how she’s going to adjust to getting up early again! She’s counting down to her birthday next week… I think I’m ready as far as gifts go, but not even started where a cake is concerned, or another sleepover? Yawn!
DS was reading up a storm, and finished up Harry Potter 7 not far behind the rest of us! Now trying to get him to read anything else is not going too well; he wants to start back at book one again, and re-read the whole series. I’ve given him the first in the Prydain Chronicles, but its slow going getting him into it. He’s looking forward to school starting, and scouts starting up again.
GC has had her ‘first day of school’ outfit layed out on her floor for two weeks now; I think its been nearly trampled to death in waiting. To say she’s excited is an understatement. For two months, I’ll have no one to pick up from a half-day program; I could get spoiled! She can’t wait to get back together with her friends, and has decided that this year she wants to go by her first name. I told her that she’d have to learn to spell it if she wanted to use it, so she took one afternoon and learned it! (Pretty impressive, for how long it is! LOL)
EK is doing well. In the month she’s been off school, she’s started using a few word approximations, and other people can understand some of what she says — or at least what she means by it! (She uses spoken sounds now for hi, bye, ok, no. HUGE improvement!) Maybe the break from weekly speech was good for her? We got in to see the Genetics clinic at the Children’s hospital yesterday, and they are pleased with where she is, and are pushing to get her in at the Neurodevelopmental Pediatric Clinic; still waiting on a call back for scheduling. I think she will be thrilled to start up school again next week, as well. (Its going to be a busy time!)
CC is growing and running and busy and going going going! His speech is delayed now (not surprising, with the number of other kids we’ve had with delayed speech, and with his tongue issues), so we will be pursuing speech and ENT evaluations once school gets in full swing. On the upside, he now says “Da” for dad, and says something that is unmistakably “Spongebob” — all the important things, yeah!? If no one is keeping right on top of him, he likes to unload everything off the tops of desks and shelves, and yesterday we found him playing the piano — by standing on the keys and stomping!! Nearly gave me a heart attack!
Fuul is busy at work — getting ready for some internal reorganizations, and preparing his big project for submission to the entire company, and taking lots of classes in new communication systems that they are using. He keeps busy, but its nice because when he comes home, he’s generally home, and not picking up the computer to do more work. Its a nice change. He’s also been seeing a chiropractor (with EK and I, as well), with mixed results; his shoulder is bothering him a lot again, and he’s concerned that by fixing his back, its re-starting the shoulder issue. Its a process, I suppose.
I’m busy with knitting and running kids here and there and cleaning and scheduling… and trying to get more writing done. Keep running into the ‘writing is simply wasting time’ mindset, which I’m trying to overcome. I re-dyed my hair Monday — now its midnight blue/black, with pink underneath, and one pink streak near the front. LOVE it. (Needs more bright pink though; will have to go buy another bottle of the good pink stuff!) Still having more anxiety and panic than I’d like, but Fuul thinks this might be situational, what with the start of school and vacation coming up. We’ll see, I suppose. He took me out to dinner at a nice fish place last night, and aside from the horrible headache (not sure where that came from!) it was wonderful! So nice to get to spend some quiet time with just the two of us.
So. I promise the real blog updates will get better as the schedules settle in again. Summer is just summer, I suppose!
