winding down

(This post is for my Grandma, who worries…)

I’m still here. We’re winding down summer, such as it is, which only means that things move faster and faster and deadlines come and go, and its like summer has already gone.

DA started football yesterday, and is already really excited to be playing, and that he’s not so much smaller than most of the other players than he thought he would be. Of course, now I’m missing my babysitter for three hours every afternoon right when I could use him most, getting the other kids ready for school to start!

JS finished 25 miles of the 50 mile bike trip for scouts last weekend (DA finished all 50, plus they estimate another 4 they tacked on to the end). He was really excited to do it, in spite of three crashes on the way. He’s been sporting his ‘war wounds’ all week! He’s looking forward to starting Junior High next week. (Bought new bikes for the two boys for the trip; it seemed to have helped out a lot, with DA’s brakes being bad before, and JS’s bike being on the small side).

AE has been doing sleepover after sleepover with her two friends, M & V. Unfortunately, there’s not much sleeping going on when the three of them are together. Not sure how she’s going to adjust to getting up early again! She’s counting down to her birthday next week… I think I’m ready as far as gifts go, but not even started where a cake is concerned, or another sleepover? Yawn!

DS was reading up a storm, and finished up Harry Potter 7 not far behind the rest of us! Now trying to get him to read anything else is not going too well; he wants to start back at book one again, and re-read the whole series. I’ve given him the first in the Prydain Chronicles, but its slow going getting him into it. He’s looking forward to school starting, and scouts starting up again.

GC has had her ‘first day of school’ outfit layed out on her floor for two weeks now; I think its been nearly trampled to death in waiting. To say she’s excited is an understatement. For two months, I’ll have no one to pick up from a half-day program; I could get spoiled! She can’t wait to get back together with her friends, and has decided that this year she wants to go by her first name. I told her that she’d have to learn to spell it if she wanted to use it, so she took one afternoon and learned it! (Pretty impressive, for how long it is! LOL)

EK is doing well. In the month she’s been off school, she’s started using a few word approximations, and other people can understand some of what she says — or at least what she means by it! (She uses spoken sounds now for hi, bye, ok, no. HUGE improvement!) Maybe the break from weekly speech was good for her? We got in to see the Genetics clinic at the Children’s hospital yesterday, and they are pleased with where she is, and are pushing to get her in at the Neurodevelopmental Pediatric Clinic; still waiting on a call back for scheduling. I think she will be thrilled to start up school again next week, as well. (Its going to be a busy time!)

CC is growing and running and busy and going going going! His speech is delayed now (not surprising, with the number of other kids we’ve had with delayed speech, and with his tongue issues), so we will be pursuing speech and ENT evaluations once school gets in full swing. On the upside, he now says “Da” for dad, and says something that is unmistakably “Spongebob” — all the important things, yeah!? If no one is keeping right on top of him, he likes to unload everything off the tops of desks and shelves, and yesterday we found him playing the piano — by standing on the keys and stomping!! Nearly gave me a heart attack!

Fuul is busy at work — getting ready for some internal reorganizations, and preparing his big project for submission to the entire company, and taking lots of classes in new communication systems that they are using. He keeps busy, but its nice because when he comes home, he’s generally home, and not picking up the computer to do more work. Its a nice change. He’s also been seeing a chiropractor (with EK and I, as well), with mixed results; his shoulder is bothering him a lot again, and he’s concerned that by fixing his back, its re-starting the shoulder issue. Its a process, I suppose.

I’m busy with knitting and running kids here and there and cleaning and scheduling… and trying to get more writing done. Keep running into the ‘writing is simply wasting time’ mindset, which I’m trying to overcome. I re-dyed my hair Monday — now its midnight blue/black, with pink underneath, and one pink streak near the front. LOVE it. (Needs more bright pink though; will have to go buy another bottle of the good pink stuff!) Still having more anxiety and panic than I’d like, but Fuul thinks this might be situational, what with the start of school and vacation coming up. We’ll see, I suppose. He took me out to dinner at a nice fish place last night, and aside from the horrible headache (not sure where that came from!) it was wonderful! So nice to get to spend some quiet time with just the two of us.

So. I promise the real blog updates will get better as the schedules settle in again. Summer is just summer, I suppose!

summer

Summer just seems to be sucking away all my computer time — well, that and the writing and the knitting and the laptop still not working!

Took the kids to the zoo yesterday with some friends. I think it went pretty well; EK and CC are finally old enough to pick out the animals and be excited to see them. We also broke out the harness/leashes for them to try out so they could walk without our losing them. I think they will work out great for Disneyland later this summer.

I finished Clue 6 in the MS3 project last night, and put in my lifeline. There is only one more section and clue left, and the entire thing will be done! I’m pretty excited to have finished (essentially) my first lace project, and I’m really liking how its working out. I’m also playing with the pattern for a pair of lace-backed socks, but I’ve changed the front section from a stockinette to a ribbed finish. And, I’m still trying to work out the finishing details for my ribbed sweater thats been sitting on waste yarn for over a month! I’ve got the correct sized needles now, but I’m not certain if I want to try for a horizontal applied finish, or simply to continue with a ribbed edge. At least the weather’s been warm enough that I’m not missing out on opportunities to wear my sweater!

I had the truck in to the body shop last week to get the damage from two separate hits repaired. When I got it home, I found that one edge of the newly painted fender panel was chipping, so I have to take it back in this afternoon so they can fix that up. They said it ought to only take an hour. I sure hope so!

Fuul’s been working hard on a project, and on presentations to different departments about his project, all the while gearing up to take over other things while his direct supervisor is heading overseas to work with another group on another aspect of their current ’stuff’. His big interdepartmental presentation was supposed to be this morning. I’ve not heard from him yet, but I’m hoping it went well!

The kids are all busy with reading and playing video games and riding bikes and counting down the days to school and Disneyland. I’m about ready for all of it to be here already, though I know I’ll hate it when I’m back on a “I have to get up early” schedule! Ah well, such is life!

progress

Today, with my computer being defunct (still — looking for the system disc, and trying to see if we can boot from an external cd drive), I’ve been working on the new server system, ripping cds onto the computer (yeah!), and trying to write up a backstory scene for the SV project. Its been a slow process, getting this one going, but in the past week or two I’ve finally taken off in ideas and planning, and have felt somewhat motivated to get moving (in spite of what Fuul thinks, I think!).

Today, in between ripping cds and moving my printer and printing off Clue 6 for the MysteryStole3 project, I’ve written over 720 words, and I’m still making progress on the current theme! Its quite a change over progress I’ve managed in the past couple of years. And I’m pretty excited about it! Now, if I can just keep up this kind of work, I could conceivably finish something this year! (and wouldn’t that be exciting!)

wahhh

My computer wouldn’t start up this morning. Fuul was working on it last night, and I’ve been having problems this week with corrupt files and email issues, and this morning I got the message on the screen that one of my windows startup files is either missing or corrupt.

Fuul said he can fix it for me tonight, but in the meantime, I’m working in a new room, on a different computer, without access to all my ’stuff’!

Time for a new laptop for Bella, I think! (several options on this front are out there; just need to pick through and figure out what will work best for us!)

nonexistant?

My email is having problems today — I send things out, to email lists or groups or even myself, and they never show up. At all. I thought maybe they weren’t leaving my server, or getting caught on the way back in on my server, but such is not the case. Apparently Fuul can get my emails that I’ve sent to him, but I don’t get any of his replies.

I had some issues with my computer having an indexing problem yesterday, and I wonder if something got compromised. Or something.

I’m feeling as though I don’t exist, since I’m ‘talking’ and no one out there can hear me or is talking back!

Aahhhh!!!

a week?

Wow! Where did it go!?

Well, I’ve had a cold, the kids are all home, the knitting has been going well, and the writing is simmering in the back of my head.

This morning I dropped the truck off to get the bumper and the rear fender repaired from the last two times I was hit, and have a too-small rental here at home, and a second too-small rental that Fuul and I will pick up when he is done at work this afternoon.

I’m enjoying the relative free time I get because DA and JS are around to babysit, and I’m waiting excitedly as well to get back onto a regular schedule when school picks up again in a month!

Hoping not to be so absent in the next while… *smile*
